The wabi sabi chrono…

We are offering for a sale a very cool and unique looking Dodane Type 21 fly-back chronograph that was issued to and used by the French Air Force.

This watch has certainly seen life – take a look at that patina that summons up the Japanese term wabi sabi in our minds. Central to the philosophy of wabi sabi is the beauty of imperfection…much like this Dodane!
Its military issue is confirmed by the case back engravings – FG stands for ‘fine de garantie’ which indicated when the watch would next need a service. The steel case measures 38mm across and remains in great condition.

The dial has turned tropical with some real signs of life! The black paint has worn off the numerals on the 12-hour bezel, but this adds to the watch’s vintage and military-issued charm! The movement is a manual wind Valjoux 231 with fly back chrono function. We have fitted one of our leather straps to this cool watch and the movement has been fully serviced by our watchmaker.
